There’s more to your well-being than just training and eating healthy fare. Taking a complete approach to your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is essential for your overall wellness. We like to term this as self-care. Here are a couple of our favorite practices for self-care.
We may be engaging in social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t able to stay connected! Schedule a virtual coffee time or happy hour with your friends. Keep topics uplifting and tell each other a good thing that happened to you in the last week. Brainstorm plans for when you can be together again and how nice it will be to give them a huge, warm hug. Together we are more capable and can care for each other. That’s what friends are for!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Build a schedule for your day but allow for some flexibility. For one thing, wake up around the same time in the morning and get in bed around the same time every evening. Write out your objectives for the day and slate out your work assignments, but allow some time for your daily workout, a walk outside, or to dig into your favorite book. Don’t be too rigorous with your plan that you add unnecessary stress. Creating a balance between procedure and leisure will help you have a more constructive and gratifying day.
Thankfulness is good for humans. The more gratitude we offer to others during tough times, the better and more resilient we become. Give others grace. One of our most treasured ways to exercise gratitude is to reach out to a loved one and express to them how much you cherish them. A a written note is also a welcome and wonderful surprise that is guaranteed to make a person’s day.
There’s not a thing better than spending time outside, taking in the fresh air. Take a walk with your dog every day after lunch. Wave hello to your neighbors (from a safe distance) and see how they’re doing. Stand in the sunlight for 10 minutes and focus on taking intentional breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out for a meal at our favorite places doesn’t mean we can’t savor our meals! Experiment with a new recipe for dinner and make your meals feel special. Queue up your favorite album, get the kiddos in on the process, and have some fun with it!
